The Executive Committee of the Confederation of Labour of Russia (KTR) informs that, on 9 April, law enforcement authorities carried out searches at premises used by the KTR, the Federal Trade Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Russia (FPAD), and the Russian Seafarers’ Union (SUR).
These measures were undertaken in the context of a criminal investigation concerning alleged offences under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
The searches followed a complaint submitted to the transport police by a former chairperson of a primary trade union organization at the Moscow Air Traffic Control Centre branch, which had previously been excluded from the Federal Trade Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Russia.
According to the information currently available, neither the elected leadership nor the staff of the KTR and its sectoral trade unions are subjects of the aforementioned criminal proceedings.
The removal of documents and office equipment from trade union premises has had an impact on the ongoing activities of the organizations, including those related to the representation and protection of the rights and interests of workers and their organizations.
The Executive Committee of the KTR and the leadership of the affiliated trade unions are taking steps, in accordance with national legislation, to ensure the legal protection of the organizations concerned and to facilitate the continuation of their activities.
